MANAGING MATURE (BROWN) FIELDS FOR MAXIMUM VALUE
COURSE OVERVIEW & LEARNING OUTCOMES
Mature fields have peculiar challenges; the most prominent being that they are economically marginal and susceptible to the vagaries of the oil prices. On the positive side, they have existing infrastructure, and enormous insightful data to help in maximizing recovery. With oil prices hovering below near historical averages and financing getting harder to come by, oil and gas companies are placing increasing priorities on elongating the tail of the life cycle curve.
Effectively managing mature fields involves an integrated team effort. However these fields are mostly caught in the middle of the disconnect between the technical and commercial teams; each working in silos with attendant sub-optimal decisions.
This course builds upon the fundamentals of the various technical and commercial disciplines (reservoir, wells, surface facilities and economics) required in managing O&G assets and repurposes them for effective management of ageing fields. It is focused on the practical and pragmatic management of these assets from a practitioner’s point of view.
