GEOSCIENCES FIELD TRIP AND WORKSHOP
COURSE OVERVIEW & LEARNING OUTCOMES
The field trip is conducted in unique areas and that shows examples of both clastic and carbonate reservoirs, sedimentary and structural features, and source and reservoir rock relationships.
During the field trip practical exercises will be conducted on the outcrops, also using unique UAV and virtual outcrop models for the digital 3D reconstruction of reservoir geology applying cutting edge technologies.
These field trips are conducted in the following areas for interested participants to choose from:
Seaton, in South-Eastern England.
This area, which includes both a UNESCO GeoPark and a World Heritage Site, shows a unique overview of the Permo-Triassic clastic series, unconformably overlain by the JurassicCretaceous along the Variscan unconformity.
This provides the opportunity to illustrate both silico-clastic and carbonate series, stacked sandstone reservoirs, and faulted and fractured carbonate reserves, as well as the interplay between tectonics and sedimentation, and a working Petroleum System with source and reservoir rocks.
UAE (Jebel Hafit) from Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
Eocene-Oligocene carbonates stratigraphy, Strike slip tectonics and folding, Oman-UAE mountain building.
Oman from Muscat or Duqm or Salalah (specifically Huqf, Mirbat).
Neoproterozoic (Precambrian) to Cambrian series, Snowball Earth glacial deposits, mountain building processes
UAE (RAK, Musandam) from Dubai or Abu Dhabi. o Triassic-Eocene carbonate stratigraphy, Oman-UAE mountain building.
Central Italy (Majella Mountain) from Pescara or Rome.
